Printable Marriage Triggers Worksheet
A free printable worksheet to separate a difficult event from your interpretation, own your response, and prepare a clear request for a safe conversation.
Use one recent event. Write privately, then share only what helps a safe conversation. This reflection tool does not diagnose trauma, a disorder, or your spouse’s motives. Do not use it to confront someone if doing so could increase danger.
1. The observable event
What happened that another person could observe? Keep the event separate from a judgment about motive.
2. My interpretation
What meaning did I give the event? What else might explain it?
3. My feelings and response
What did I feel or notice? What did I say or do?
4. My responsibility
What part do I need to own? A difficult feeling does not excuse harmful behavior.
5. My question or request
What can I ask without treating my interpretation as established fact?
6. My next action
Choose one practical change you control. If sharing safely, agree when to revisit it.
Threats, violence, coercion, and intimidation require confidential qualified support and attention to safety. Seek emergency help for immediate danger. Do not demand access to a spouse’s private notes.
